To celebrate turning the grand old age of five, one of Liverpool’s most popular restaurants, Maray, will be celebrating its birthday with a limited edition birthday menu, available from 4-9th June at both of its Allerton Road and Bold Street sites. The menu will comprise of specials that take inspiration from a selection of dishes which were initially available when Maray first launched, including favourite small plates along with cocktails.

The special Birthday menu will offer takes from Maray classics, including Crispy Chilli Kale, Chicken & Puy Lentils, and the hugely popular Falafel Wrap. The drinks menu will include the ‘Q.V.O’ comprising of sloe gin, fresh lemon juice, Prosecco and cucumber, the ‘Rum Come Save Me’, made with gold rum, dark rum, lime, passion fruit, Campari & Ting, along with ‘The Afternoon’s Hat’; a flavoursome mix of rye whiskey, Aperol, Chartreuse, sugar, and orange & rhubarb bitters.

Renowned for its Middle-Eastern inspired cuisine and vast array of options for vegetarian and vegan diners, Maray has become a firm favourite with Liverpool locals and visitors since opening its doors in 2014. Since then, the brand has developed and matured in its offering, yet maintains the same underlying values, continuing to do things which excite and inspire the team, whilst keeping guests happy.

When discussing how the menu has changed over the past five years, co-founder James Bates, comments, “Though in a lot of ways our menu today is barely recognisable from the one we launched with, the evolution of the menu was a slow and organic process.

“We spent the first three years changing most of the menu every three months until we settled on about 60% of the menu that now stays the same. Menu changes now are mostly tweaks and the flavour profiles are pretty consistent so we can keep the menu fresh and dynamic, whilst being confident we are offering dishes that our regulars will like”.

Maray’s fifth birthday comes at a pivotal point for the brand, having recently announced a brand new location at the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, in addition to their Bold Street and Allerton Road restaurants. The new site, due to open in summer 2019, will join the exciting line up of independents taking shape at the Dock, including the likes of Lunyalita, Rosa’s Thai Cafe and the Barrie Brother’s new restaurant which is also set to open its doors later this year.
