Saturday June 1st and I head to Wakefield on what is supposedly going to be the hottest day of the year so far for Long Division 2019. As a festival Long Division began in 2011 and, with the exception of 2017, has been an annual event ever since. Over the years it has played host to The Cribs, Billy Bragg, British Sea Power, The Fall, Gang Of Four and a whole load of other top name bands. Last year many were lucky enough to witness what plenty have since described as the best gig they’ve ever seen – The Membranes…

Bearded Theory’s Spring GatheringCatton Hall & Park, Walton-on-TrentDerbyshireThursday 23rd May – Sunday 26th May 2019 If you wanted to write a tutorial on how to put on the perfect festival then you couldn’t wish for a better case-study than Bearded Theory. It’s something I think you only fully appreciate when you’ve been to other festivals. Bearded get all the little things, and indeed the big things right. For example, you can take your own beer into the arena. This not only helps you financially if you’re on a tight budget but also helps the atmosphere of the festival. One of…
The Downs Festival Clifton Downs Bristol Saturday 31st August 2019 Each year, as well as my regular festival haunts – Glastonbury (sadly, no ticket this year!), Bearded Theory and Threshold, I like to try a different festival that I’ve not been to before, one that’s maybe off the beaten track and quirky or different in some way. Last year’s choice was the rather excellent Electric Fields set in stunning Scottish countryside (this year it’s moved to a new indoor venue in Glasgow SWG3, which sounds quite an interesting venue, but it doesn’t seem to have gone down well with everyone).…
Sound City returned to Liverpool for a fantastic weekend of music, including Loyle Carner, Mabel and Shame. There really is no better place to host Liverpool’s most successful music festival than The Baltic Triangle, the creative melting pot that it is. The varied selection of venues and bars makes it a perfect match for the festival which boasts a stand-out, genre-spanning line up. It allowed you to see electronic dance acts in warehouse spaces, Britpop legends in beer gardens, and had the streets mixed with headliner acts playing on the main stage such as Mabel and Loyle Carner, and smaller…
