Recently, we had the opportunity to interview Jena Joyce, the founder and CEO of Plant Mother, a leading Miami skincare brand. Here’s a recap of our conversation.

Running a clean skincare brand must come with its own set of challenges. What are some you’ve faced and how have you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges is the cost and complexity of sourcing and formulating with 100% plant-based ingredients. These ingredients are more expensive, difficult to cultivate, and much more difficult to work with than synthetic alternatives. Additionally, since we manufacture everything in-house, it requires a significant investment of time and resources. However, these challenges are worth it because they allow us to maintain the integrity and quality of our products.

How does Plant Mother address the needs of different skin types, particularly sensitive skin?

Plant Mother’s formulations are designed for dry and sensitive skin. For example, our Plant-Based Retinol Serum uses natural sources of Vitamin A, such as bakuchiol and seabuckthorn, which offer the benefits of retinol without causing irritation or dryness. This makes it ideal for those with sensitive skin who want to incorporate anti-aging products into their routine.

Can you discuss how you engage with customers?

We have a vibrant community of customers who are passionate about clean beauty and sustainability. We also prioritize customer feedback, using it to continually improve our formulations and services. This close-knit community has been instrumental in our growth and success.

What are some unique ingredients in Plant Mother’s products, and what benefits do they offer?

Our Vitamin C and Retinol serums are packed with unique botanicals such as Kakadu plum, which is one of the richest sources of Vitamin C, and sea buckthorn, known for its regenerative powers. These ingredients, along with others like rosehips and hibiscus, provide a potent blend of vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that nourish and rejuvenate the skin. This combination helps improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, and enhance overall radiance.

What role does sustainability play for Plant Mother?

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Our products are waterless, which reduces waste and ensures that each formulation is concentrated with active ingredients. We also use zero-waste packaging, meaning that all our materials are either recyclable or biodegradable. This commitment to sustainability not only helps protect the environment but also supports our mission to create healthier, more effective skincare products.

What message would you like to leave with those considering joining the clean beauty movement?

Embrace the journey toward clean beauty with an open mind and a commitment to your health and the environment. Choosing products that are free from harmful synthetics and sustainably produced is a powerful way to care for yourself and make a positive impact on the world. At Plant Mother, we are here to support and guide you every step of the way. Thank you for being part of this important movement.
